Algarve Museum Network debates “Conserving Heritage in Portugal – good and bad practices”

RMA conferences will bring together specialists and people responsible for various institutions, from the country and the region

“Conserving Heritage in Portugal – good and bad practices” is the theme of the fourth annual conferences of the Algarve Museum Network (RMA), which will take place on November 11th and 12th, in the Small Auditorium of Teatro das Figuras, in Faro, in collaboration with the Municipality of the Algarve capital.

The RMA conferences will bring together specialists and those responsible for various institutions, from the country and the region, with a broad agenda of reflections, namely those referring to the role of museums in the conservation of cultural heritage: awareness, values ​​and practices.

Sandra Costa Saldanha, director of the National Secretariat for the Church's Cultural Assets, Joana Amaral, Conservator of Parques de Sintra – Monte da Lua, and Aida Carvalho, president of the Côa Parque Foundation, are three of the presences in the first two thematic panels (11 of November): «Raising awareness to preserve – the role of museums in the conservation of cultural heritage» and «Interventions in cultural heritage – when the “beautiful” takes precedence over the original».

Alongside the search for a broader awareness of society and a look at some national experiences, attention will also be focused on the protection of the Algarve's cultural heritage and on the range of experiences and interventions developed in recent years by the region's museums , themes of the third thematic panel (12 November): «Interventions in the cultural heritage of the Algarve».

For these reflections and debates, which will take place in a mixed format (in person and online), will be present, in addition to the aforementioned responsible, participants from the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar, University of Algarve, New University of Lisbon and various museums in the Algarve.
