Portimão supports animal defense associations in the sterilization of stray dogs and cats

Support has been a practice in the municipality in recent years

The municipality of Portimão is once again supporting three animal defense associations, as has been the practice in recent years, with a total budget of 35 thousand euros for the work of sterilization of dogs and cats that is being carried out in the municipality.

For this purpose, collaboration protocols were established between the municipality and the AACP – Associação Amigos do Canil de Portimão (15 thousand euros), ADAP – Association for the Defense of Animals of Portimão (10 thousand euros) and APAA – Association for the Protection of the Animal of the Algarve (10 thousand euros).

This municipal strategy arises "from the recognition of the effort made by those associations at the level of public interest", namely with regard to the "promotion of awareness campaigns and the encouragement of sterilization, aiming to reduce the excess of stray animals and thus contribute to safeguarding the health and environmental quality of populations», says the Portimão municipality.

As far as the AACP is concerned, the protocoled amount is intended “to support the program of activities of this association in the field of sterilization of animals in the Municipal Kennel and in providing health care to animals in the kennel that cannot be done on site, as well. as in the promotion of sterilization campaigns for stray dogs and cats», explains the municipality.

The monetary support for ADAP is intended “for the sterilization of stray animals and the provision of urgent veterinary care”, this association also promoting “campaigns to raise awareness and encourage sterilization, as a way to reduce the excess of stray animals”.

Finally, the collaboration agreement with APAA is also related to «the sterilization of stray animals and the promotion of awareness campaigns and incentives for sterilization in the local community», concludes the municipality.
