Swimming: Three national records broken at the VII Meeting Internacional do Algarve

In total, 220 swimmers (120 men and 100 women) participated, representing 48 clubs

Three new national records were broken at the VII Algarve International Swimming Meeting that took place last weekend, November 13th and 14th, at the Albufeira Municipal Swimming Pools. 

The records were broken by two athletes. On Sunday, Carolina Fernandes set a new mark in the 50 meters freestyle, by finishing the race in 25.42 seconds, 30 hundredths less than in the previous session.

In turn, after having beaten, on Saturday, the senior and absolute national record in the 50 meter backstroke, with a time of 27.33 seconds, Rafaela Azevedo repeated the feat on Sunday, this time in the 100 meters backstroke when she finished in 58.39 seconds, shortening its own mark by 26 hundredths, obtained in December 2019.

Ana Guedes, in the 50 meters moth, completed the distance in 26.38, equaling the senior and absolute national record that had belonged to her since November 2020.

 

 

Cristiano Cabrita, deputy mayor of Albufeira, responsible for sport, considered that this competition was, «once again, exciting».

«It should be noted that, within the scope of this Meeting, the number of records is 24, which speaks well of the importance of this event for national athletes, in a competitive environment, but also one of friendship and a high ethical sense. In addition, we managed to boost the circular economy in our municipality, which is fundamental for our economic and social development», he adds.

 

 

For this reason, the president of the City Council, assures that «the future is to further solidify the quality and quantity of these competitions in Albufeira, as seen by the national records and their importance, Rafaela Azevedo was only two tenths away. to secure a position at the Abu Dhabi World Cup in short pool, between December 16th and 21st».

"Albufeira's sporting commitment goes a long way towards enhancing the quality of our Municipal Swimming Pools", added José Carlos Rolo, also highlighting the decisive role played by ANAlgarve – Algarve Swimming Association and Futebol Clube de Ferreiras in the success of this competition.
