Mirian Tavares is part of the Portuguese Contemporary Art Network team

Structure is coordinated by the director-general of the Directorate-General for the Arts (DGARTES) Américo Rodrigues

Mirian Tavares, professor at the University of Algarve (UAlg), was chosen to be part of the advisory team of the Portuguese Contemporary Art Network (RPAC), announced this Thursday, 11 November, the Ministry of Culture.

"This team will be responsible for implementing the RPAC's strategy, including the necessary procedures for joining this network, ensuring compliance with the objectives defined in the Resolution of the Council of Ministers, as well as others that the team deems appropriate and relevant for an effective promotion of the contemporary art,” says the Ministry.

Coordinated by the director general of the Directorate-General for the Arts (DGARTES) Américo Rodrigues, the team is also made up of the curator of the State Contemporary Art Collection (CACE) David Santos and a group of personalities with extensive experience and work in the field of art contemporary, such as Ana Cristina Cachola, Delfim Sardo, Inês Grosso, João Mourão, Jorge Costa, José Alberto Ferreira, José Maçãs de Carvalho, Márcia de Sousa, Marta Mestre and Mirian Tavares.

The Portuguese Contemporary Art Network (RPAC) constitutes a reference platform in the dynamization of Portuguese contemporary art, which aims to bring together institutions dispersed territorially, establishing synergies between exhibition spaces, collectors, programmers, curators and visual artists.

This network aims to "consolidate the mapping of public and private cultural structures existing at national level in this area, the stimulation of network synergies between the RPAC's equipment, support for the internationalization of this artistic universe, qualification, including in the aspect of the digital transition , of equipment predominantly and regularly and continuously dedicated to the promotion of cultural activities in the context of contemporary art, as well as the training of teams associated with them, among other essential vectors of this state intervention».

«The RPAC constitutes a fundamental instrument of the national strategy for contemporary art, having been designed in articulation and alignment with other instruments of public policy for culture in this domain».

These instruments include the Commission for the Acquisition of Contemporary Art, the respective annual acquisition program and the CACE Curator, which has ensured a more efficient management of the collection of this large public collection of contemporary art.
