Loulé will have a new Counterpeso Festival with theater, music, dramaturgy and oral narration

The Counterpeso Festival is an initiative of Mákina de Cena

Theatre, music, dramaturgy and oral narration. The 1st edition of the Festival Contrapeso takes place from 1 to 5 December, in Loulé, with nine shows.

The initiative has a mixed program of theater and jazz, bringing together emerging artists who are also renowned in their disciplines, such as Companhia João Garcia Miguel, Carlos Barretto, Lígia Soares, Mário Delgado, Óscar Marcelino da Graça, Patrícia Amaral (Tixa), Pedro Filipe Mendes and Rita Rodrigues.

With artistic direction assumed by Carolina Santos and by the musician Marco Martins, this festival has the «objective of building stable artistic bridges at the national level, and cementing habits of cultural consumption off-establishment, through an equally qualitative but differentiating offer, enhancing the development and fixation of audiences, says the organization.

The Contrapeso festival starts on December 1st with the Loulé Theater Reading Club, guided by Lígia Soares, where spectators will be invited to participate.

The next day, “Il Cuoco” (The Cook), a theater show by Pedro Filipe Mendes is presented, and at night Mário Delgado, one of the most prominent guitarists in Portuguese music, will give a concert at the Auditorium of Solar da Música Nova.

“Mister Currencies wants to see the World”, a show by Companhia João Garcia Miguel, which starts from an interview with former Portuguese Commissioner of the European Union, Carlos Moedas, to reflect on Europe, is presented on December 3rd and 4th at House of the Machine. Performed by Sara Ribeiro, this show has already been presented in Holland, Romania and Italy.

Musician Óscar Marcelino da Graça takes to the stage at Solar da Música Nova, on December 3rd, to present works on the piano that have been immortalized as songs in different musical universes, reinventing them and making room for improvisation.

On the 4th of December, it is the turn of the bassist Carlos Barretto, a reference in national jazz, to perform on the same stage.

On Sunday, the last day of the festival, the program is dedicated to the youngest. At Casa do Meio Dia there is a short story session, narrated by the storyteller Patrícia Amaral, and in the afternoon, “In search of a grandson” by Rita Rodrigues is presented, a show on a serious topic (solitude) treated with great humor.

The Festival Contrapeso is an initiative of Mákina de Cena, a Loulé artistic structure, and has the institutional partnership of the Portuguese Republic – Ministry of Culture (Guarantee Culture Program) and with the support of the Loulé City Council.
