The participation of students from Tavira Schools through “Encenada Poesia” directed by actor Vítor Correia, at Casa das Artes, the re-exhibition of the short film “A Concubina Japonesa” at the Municipal Library, or a Fado gala at Misericórdia Church , are some of the proposals for this week in the celebrations of Álvaro de Campos' Birthday Party, which will take place until November 30th, in Tavira.

After a workshop inspired by the work of José Saramago, “O Ano da Morte de Ricardo Reis”, students from the Secondary School, directed by actor Vitor Correia of the Theater Company “Armação do Artista”, will present “Poesia Encenada”. The initiative will take place this afternoon, November 15th, at 18 pm, at the Casa das Artes de Tavira.

This Friday, the 19th, at 18:30 pm, the short film “The Japanese Concubine” will be shown again, this time at the Álvaro de Campos Municipal Library, with the right to an interview with the author Rudolf Engelander by Pedro Jubilot, director of the publishing house CanalSonora.

On this day, the monologues that gave rise to the short film will also be presented in a printed edition for all who want to read them.

The following day, November 20, a Fado gala will take place at Igreja da Misericórdia, in Tavira, organized by “Fado com História”.

«All poetry – and the song is an aided poetry – reflects what the soul does not have. That is why the song of sad peoples is happy and the song of happy peoples is sad. Fado, however, is neither happy nor sad. It's an intermission episode. The Portuguese soul formed it», says the organization of the initiative.

To celebrate Álvaro de Campos' birthday, not only in Tavira but also internationally, a partnership was established with Scotland and, through Casa Álvaro de Campos, the celebrations will reach Glasgow live.

«This is a new approach to this Burns-inspired tradition to celebrate Álvaro de Campos, who is the inspiration for this poem. There is no order or tradition, but an improvised night of poetry, with a cake and a drink to share. The poems can be read in Scottish, English or Portuguese».

In addition to these initiatives, the city of Tavira will also host several artistic and photography exhibitions, until the 30th of November.
