Documentary, performance and “Mare Nostrum” to see in Sagres and Ermida de Guadalupe

Initiatives are free

The multimedia project “Mare Nostrum – What if Fortaleza were mine?”, the performance “Trava, trava, travinha” and the presentation of the documentary “Viver do Quê? – Oral memoirs of a life of work”. These are initiatives that take place on the 27th and 28th of November and the 1st of December, in the Fortress of Sagres and Ermida de Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe (Vila do Bispo).

The Tertúlia Associação Sócio-Cultural de Aljezur announces the project “Mare Nostrum – What if the Fortaleza were mine?” this Saturday, 27th November, at 15 pm, in the Sagres Fortress.

This is a multimedia project that reveals the view of the communities of Sagres and Vila do Bispo on the Sagres Fortress. On this day, the results of the work carried out with the community will be made known: the presentation of a documentary by the anthropologist Vera Abreu, the inauguration of a photographic exhibition and a sound installation.

The exhibition will present the works developed from the photographic and graphic records of students from the 1st cycle of the municipality, who had as their starting point the questions “What is Fortaleza?” and “What could it be – what if the Fortress were mine?”.

The creation and conception is by Albina Petrolati, Ana Simões and Conceição Gonçalves, the interviews by Ana Simões and Conceição Gonçalves and the documentary by Vera Abreu. The photographs are by Ana Simões, João Costa and the students, teachers and educational assistants of EB1 in Sagres and Vila do Bispo.

On Sunday, the documentary will be presented to the public again, at 15:30 pm. The works will be exhibited at the Fortaleza de Sagres until the 30th of November.

After the first phase of research in the creation residency, this is the result of a project that promotes the Algarve's intangible heritage, through the Algarve's language locks.

“Trava, Trava, Travadinha” is also part of the first commemoration of Mediterranean Day, whose objective is to recognize the diversity of Mediterranean culture and promote unity and community.

On December 1st, Associação Vicentina will premiere the documentary “Viver do Quê? – Oral Memories of a Life of Work”, by Patrícia Leal and Vera Abreu, at the Chapel of Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe, at 15 pm.

This is a film based on the anthropological research of Vera Abreu and the concept and production of Patrícia Leal. It intends to "safeguard" the memories of dominant ways of life of the recent past, showing the active participation of women in work related to the countryside and the sea, which is often undervalued and neglected, and their role in the main economic activities in the municipality of Vila do Bishop.

Participation is free, but registration is mandatory until the 26th of November through this link.

The 2021 edition of DiVaM, with the theme “Heritage, Community and Inclusion”, comes to an end next week, with the initiative “A Ver d'Estórias”, by Cineclube de Faro, on the 5th of December.
