Aqua Portimão installs nest boxes for birds

Vita Nativa leads the “Local Housing for Birds” project

Aqua Portimão shopping center joined the “Local Housing for Birds” project with the installation of two nest boxes for common kestrels (or kestrel hawks) and five nest boxes for swifts.

“In case of occupation of the nests by species, video cameras will be installed inside the nests for later live transmission of the images obtained through an online platform and also for monitoring the birds”, says Aqua Portimão.

The Native Vita, which leads the “Local Accommodation for Birds” project, is a Portuguese non-profit organization for the Conservation of the Environment, which aims to promote the study and conservation of nature, promote and enhance the natural heritage and contribute to active participation in defense environment and ecosystem services.

Started in August 2020, the “Local Housing for Birds” aims to encourage the settlement of more birds in urban areas to foster interest and provide more direct community contact with birds, and to promote and enhance the role of birds in control of biological pests.
