Algarve celebrates Christmas with fairs, markets, concerts and humor

There is a lot to choose from

The Algarve will celebrate Christmas, throughout December, with fairs, markets, concerts and a humor festival.

For those who are already looking for Christmas gifts, you can choose the traditional trade, opting for the dozens of fairs and markets that will tour the various municipalities of the Algarve.

Among them, the Portimão Christmas Market (from 1 to 23) stands out, inspired by the Christmas street markets in Northern Europe, where visitors will have plenty of entertainment.

Also Vale do Lobo (4th), Loulé (4), Cacela Velha (5), São Brás de Alportel (5) and Vila Vita Parc (18th and 19th, in Lagoa) hold Christmas markets with various suggestions for gifts – such as handicrafts and regional agri-food products – and with lots of entertainment, which promise to envelop the streets in the Christmas spirit.

Albufeira, Moncarapacho, Quarteira, Silves receive the Orquestra Clássica do Sul which, between 17 and 22, performs the Christmas Concerts Cycle.

In Lagos, on the 4th, the Cultural Center receives the Orquestra Ligeira de Lagos, who will perform “É a Magia do Natal”.

On December 22, at 21 pm, Diogo Piçarra takes the stage at Teatro das Figuras, in Faro, to present “Vem Cantar Comigo”, a tour that marks the singer's first solo time and which has as its particularity a moment of duets with an artist from the region.

Albufeira will again host the Solrir – Humor Festival, where, for four nights (29th and 30th December and 1st and 2nd January), eight comedians are committed to leaving 2021 and entering 2022 in a unique way: with laughter.

Herman José, Nilton, Marco Horácio, Fernando Rocha, Ana Bola, David Cristina, Serafim and Aldo Lima are the eight summoned to a comedy night at the Palácio de Congressos do Algarve, at Herdade dos Salgados.

In the last month of the year, the João Bailote Municipal Gallery, in Albufeira, receives the exhibition santons, by Ragnhild Olsen. On display until the 7th of January, this exhibition recovers an old Christmas tradition from Provence, in the south of France, by bringing santons (or, better, clay dolls) handmade, measuring between 25 and 30 centimeters, fully dressed and signed by different artists.

The Russian Classical Ballet company from Moscow, directed by dancer Evgeniya Bespalova, returns to Portugal and stops in Lagoa, on December 12, at the Carlos do Carmo Municipal Auditorium, to present the new production of the classic ballet “A Bela Adormecida”, a narrative that awakens the enchantment of fairy tales.

Finally, on the 4th and 5th of December, the first edition of the Regional Rally Champions Cup – Claudino Romeiro will tour the roads of several municipalities.

These and other events are included in the monthly events guide published by the Algarve Tourism Region, a bilingual publication (Portuguese and English), with a circulation of 35 thousand copies and free distribution in hotels, travel agencies, tourist offices, airport in Faro, rent-a-cars and golf courses in the region.
