Artists who are natural or resident in Lagos will be able to submit applications to the new municipal contemporary art project “LocalARTE” from November 1st to 15th and qualify for prizes of up to 3000 euros.
They can apply for this initiative, which aims to “promote the work of the local artistic community, as well as encourage their creativity, disseminating local art and culture”, artists in the fields of painting, sculpture, photography and ceramics.
According to the Câmara de Lagos, «each artist can participate, at most, with two works produced between 2020 and 2021, of his own authorship, and that have never been publicly exhibited in physical or virtual exhibition».
The application must be made by sending the application form and the work form, available here, to the email [email protected] or directly at the Centro Cultural de Lagos (3rd to Saturday, 10:00-12:30 and 14:00 -16:30).
«From the works in the competition, three artistic works will be distinguished with monetary prizes: 1st prize 3000 euros, 2nd prize 2000 euros and 3rd prize 1000 euros. The works selected by the jury will also be included in an exhibition in rooms 1, 2 and 3 of the Centro Cultural de Lagos between 29 January and 19 March», added the municipality.
«Aware that the pandemic period has greatly affected cultural activity, the Municipality of Lagos presents this new project whose main objective is to encourage artistic production and promote the work of local artists who, even in the face of adversities arising from Covid-19 , they never stopped producing art», concluded the municipality.
