Faro reclassifies the street that connects Largo do Povo in Montenegro to the Airport

This work comes after the contract for the requalification of Rua Bento de Jesus Caraça and roundabout (506 thousand euros) which is about to end.

Rua Egas Moniz, which connects Largo do Povo, in Montenegro, to the Airport, will be revamped, in a project of 880 thousand euros, announced this Monday, 18 October, the City Council. Faro. 

This work comes after the contract for the requalification of Rua Bento de Jesus Caraça and roundabout (506 thousand euros) which is about to end.

The work on Rua Egas Moniz will be carried out by the company José de Sousa Barra & Filhos and has a completion period of 270 days.

«These two redevelopment interventions, which focus on the two main arteries of the central area of ​​Montenegro, aim to introduce aesthetic and functional improvements, favoring pedestrians and accessibility conditions, disciplining parking and improving road and pedestrian circulation conditions », says the Chamber of Faro.

Also in this parish, the Municipality of Faro is preparing to consign the contracts for the construction of the Montebranco garden, in Gambelas, the repaving of the EM 527-1 and Estrada da Arabia, and also the repaving of streets at Quinta do Eucalipto – southern zone.

The construction work for the garden, awarded to the company Vitor Manuel e Pedro. Lda., has a global value of around 355 euros and a period of execution of 240 days, while the repaving work of EM 527-1 and Estrada da Arabia, in charge of the company JJ Brito, Lda. of around 114 thousand euros has an execution period of 60 days.

The repaving of several streets at Quinta do Eucalipto – an intervention aimed at restoring ideal conditions for circulation, as well as increasing the comfort and safety of motorists and pedestrians – implies a municipal investment of 103 euros.

Simultaneously, the Municipality of Faro it is also preparing to award the repaving work of Rua do Parque Infantil, in Montenegro, for a total value of 136.567,54 euros.

Rogério Bacalhau, President of the City Council of Faro, welcomes this set of “interventions that will have a profound impact on the future development of this parish, so important for the municipality, and for the quality of life of our residents”.

Last week, Luís Graça (PS), in his last speech as president of the Municipal Assembly of Faro, announced that he will propose, "in the coming days", the elevation of Montenegro to a city."
