A photograph of two salamanders copulating in the “sea” by Minde, by the underwater photographer João Rodrigues, based in the Algarve, won a category in the “Wildlife photographer of the year” competition and will be on display , from 15 October at the Natural History Museum in London.

The photo won the category “Behaviour: amphibians and reptiles” (Behavior: amphibians and reptiles).

Ao Sul Informação, João Rodrigues expressed his «huge pride to be able to display our flag among the winners of this mythical festival at the Museum of Natural History in London».

This is the first time a Portuguese has been selected for this one of the main exhibitions of nature photography.

The winning photo was taken by João Rodrigues in January 2020, in the “sea” (Polje) of Minde, a rare phenomenon that has always fascinated him, as he himself told here to our newspaper.

With a machine in hand, at a depth of about 3 meters, the underwater photographer and marine biologist took the photograph that, in addition to being published in National Geographic magazine, had already been one of the winners of the “Underwater Photographer of The Year” contest, in category “Behaviour” (behavior).

This exhibition “Wildlife photographer of the year” will run until June 5th, in London.
