Without an absolute majority in VRSA, PS wants to "bridge" with the CDU

«Vila Real de Santo António showed that he wanted to change»

The socialist Álvaro Araújo, elected this Sunday, September 27, as mayor of Vila Real de Santo António, wants to make “bridges and understandings” with the CDU. The PS did not get a majority in the municipality, but VRSA, which was led by the PSD, «showed that he wanted to change».

In statements to the Sul Informação, Álvaro Araújo confessed that the victory “was something he was waiting for” because of the “daily contact” he had during the campaign.

Socialists won 37,12% of the votes, with three councilors (mayor included). The PSD, which had Luís Gomes, former president in VRSA, as head of the list, had 32,47% and also got the same three councilors.

The CDU, in turn, raised 11,72% and elected a councilor who could be essential for the functioning of the Chamber in the next four years.

To our newspaper, Álvaro Araújo assures that he will try to «build bridges and understandings» with the CDU, «with which he will sit at the table» because this «is a credible candidacy».

For the elected president, VRSA, which was governed by the PSD, needed "alternation" because people "should not remain forever" in office, in what is a criticism of Luís Gomes.

For the next four years, Álvaro Araújo promises “hard work”.
