Castro Marim fire caused 2,3 million euros in damages

The fire that broke out in Castro Marim, which spread to the neighboring municipalities of Tavira and Vila Real de Santo António, in August, caused losses of around 2,3 million euros, announced this Monday, 20 September, the Ministry of Agriculture.

According to TSF, the Ministry of Agriculture has received records of 128 producers who were affected by the fire, although the accounts are not yet fully closed.

Rui Martinho, Secretary of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, told this radio that the Government has already delivered "19 kilos of animal feed to various breeders" and that "the distribution of sugar to help feed the bees is also underway." .

According to the government official, an additional distribution of around 37 tons of animal feed will be made.

"Next, we wait for the fire season to end and, at that time, we open a measure that is the restoration of productive potential, to allow these farmers to be supported in what is the investment component," added Rui Martinho in statements to TSF.

The Ministry of Agriculture also announced that it will open, at the end of the fire season, the tender to support producers in replacing material and installations affected by the flames.

The crops most affected by the Castro Marim fire were mostly carob trees, citrus orchards, avocado and olive trees.
