Theater play “Catarina and the beauty of killing fascists”, by Tiago Rodrigues

Cineteatro Louletano will kick off the new season in September with the play “Catarina and the beauty of killing fascists”, on the 11th, a work by Tiago Rodrigues, also featuring another edition of FOME – Festival of Objects and Puppets & Outros Comeres, a concert by the pianist Júlio Resende, among other shows and initiatives.

"At a time when some populist speeches are escalating in Europe", the Cineteatro Louletano brings a theater piece "that deals with democracy, questioning whether the ends, after all, justify the means", says the Loulé municipality in a note sent to the newsrooms. .

“Catarina and the beauty of killing fascists”, by Tiago Rodrigues, will premiere in the south on September 11, coming from the Teatro Nacional D. Maria II, in Lisbon, with the participation of Sara Barros Leitão, actress who won the Ageas Revelation Award D. Maria II National Theater in 2020.

«The story takes place in Baleizão, Alentejo, in a family that has an ancient tradition: killing fascists. Catarina has the first “prey” at her feet, but she is incapable of killing and refuses to do so. The family conflict breaks out, accompanied by several questions. What is a fascist? Is there a place for violence in the struggle for a better world? Can we violate the rules of democracy to better defend it?”, adds the note.

Between 11 and 25 September, in Loulé and Alte, another edition of FOME – Festival of Objects and Puppets & Outros Comeres will take place, a partnership between Algarve Central and the municipalities of Faro, Loulé, Albufeira, Olhão, S. Brás de Alportel and Tavira, with the artistic direction of ACTA (Algarve Theater Company) and the funding of CRESC 2020.

On the 12th, the pianist Júlio Resende brings the Loulé “Júlio Resende Fado Jazz Ensemble”, «an album that is characterized, as the name indicates, by a surprising and original combination of the two musical styles».

«It's a free record, in which the Portuguese guitar and piano intersect, and with the double bass and drums they try to make the most of this new place they discover together. Walk around. If it's Fado, if it's Jazz, I don't know, it could be both, but in reality I don't know, because those who know don't usually advance. Those who already know are stuck in this knowledge. I'd rather not know, just go, free. Like the sound», emphasizes the Portuguese pianist.

On Saturday, September 18th, the show by the group “Dançando com a Diferença” arrives in Loulé. they often feel on the sidelines, stimulating new skills in them».

On Sunday 19, the Cineteatro Louletano will host “Vandalus”, one of the Al Mutamid concerts, as part of the XXI edition of this Festival, which takes place in various parts of the Algarve.

«“Vandalus” explores the similarities between the roots of flamenco and the traditional music of the eastern Mediterranean and the Maghreb. Remember that the flamenco guitar derives from the Arabic lute and this kinship becomes evident throughout the show», stresses the municipality.

On Thursday, 23rd, Companhia Maior presents “O Lugar do Canto está Vazio”, a dance piece by Sofia Dias and Vítor Roriz, performed only by senior actors.

«O Lugar do Canto está Vazio is a game of alternations between the abstract and the figurative, the recognizable and the strange, the individual and the collective, the biographical and the fictional. A composition of sound scores, gestures that are linked with words, brief narratives interrupted by movements and objects that give rise to voices».

Finally, still in the area of dance, on September 30, Companhia de Dança Paulo Ribeiro will present “Last”, directed and choreographed by São Castro and António M Cabrita, and with live music by the String Quartet of Matosinhos.

«A piece that, more than an inspiration, aspires to the understanding of Beethoven, in one of his most daring periods of composition, towards the end of his life “Das ist Musik für eine spätere Zeit” (This is music for the future)» .“Last” is, above all, “the impossible challenge of keeping the senses inert, in the face of a work that the composer himself never got to hear”.

Despite the pandemic, the Cineteatro Louletano «has continued to invest in a nationally referenced program, gaining public support and attracting new audiences for cultural enjoyment», concludes the Louletan local authority.
