“Verão em Tavira” is back and brings with it a lot of Portuguese music

There are several renowned bands and artists that will be playing in Tavira from tomorrow until September

Carlão, Capitão Fausto, Amor Electro, Fernando Daniel, Mario Laginha, Maria João and many other divas, including the Algarve Viviane, are some of the names that will liven up the “Summer in Tavira”, which will promote a diversified cultural program, multidisciplinary from tomorrow until September 5th, in the Park and Patio of Palácio da Galeria, in this city.

The shows in this animation program by the Câmara de Tavira, with which the municipality decided to go forward despite the current constraints resulting from Covid-19, bring together "local, regional and national artists" and aim at "enhancing Portuguese culture".

The shows will be free or "at affordable prices" and will comply with "the Contingency Plans and the norms approved by the General Directorate of Health (DGS) for this type of venues, outdoors, with social distance, in the middle of the city's genetic hill ».

Tomorrow, the kick-off for more than a month of initiatives is given with the show “Eduardo Madeira invites… Carlos Vidal”, at Parque do Palácio da Galeria, at 22 pm.

This will be “a night of humor and music, in which issues of society, politics and sport are debated “in a non-exempt and almost non-serious way”».

This summer, Tavira will once again promote the event Jazz no Palácio, a cycle of three concerts that will take place in the Pátio of Palácio da Galeria, always at 22 pm.

On the 4th, next Wednesday, the Mário Laginha Trio, composed by Mário Laginha (piano), Bernardo Moreira (double bass) and Alexandre Frazão (drums), will take the stage.

On the 24th, Maria João & Carlos Bica Quartet will share songs from around the world. The next day, the Mano a Mano project with brothers and guitarists André and Bruno Santos.

And if Jazz no Palácio already has well-known names in Portuguese music, the rest of the program won't be far behind.

On the 12th, at 22 pm, as part of the International Youth Day, Fernando Daniel, «one of the most relevant pop artists of our time», will present his latest album “Presente” at Parque do Palácio.

Two days later, on the 14th of August, at 22 pm, it will be the turn of “Capitão Fausto” to take the stage in Tavira.
Carlão, vocalist and lyricist who became famous in Da Weasel, is another of the big names in the program and will perform on August 21, at 22 pm, at Parque do Palácio.

This will be, says Câmara de Tavira, "a concert aimed not only at the feet, but also at the head, the energy is constant and the surrender total and detached".

The program also includes a concert by Amor Electro, «one of the main bands in modern Portuguese music today», which closes the “Summer in Tavira” program on September 5th, at 22 pm, at Parque do Palácio da Galeria.

Another highlight is Renato Júnior's project “Uma Mulher não chora”, which will bring together singers Viviane, Sofia Escobar, Rita RedShoes, Joana Amendoeira, Patrícia Antunes and Patrícia Silveira, Luanda Cozetti and Ana Bacalhau at Parque do Palácio, on the 7th. , from 22 pm, in what will be “a tribute to all women”.

Anyone visiting Tavira this summer will also have the opportunity to attend a concert by the Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve, on the 13th of August, at 22 pm, at the Palácio da Galeria Park, and a show by the pianist Pedro Burmester, on the 00th, at same hour.

On the 27th, the Miramar project with Frankie Chavez and Peixe takes the stage.

«Although they have different experiences, these two artists are united by their work with the guitar. Live, they are presented with images manipulated in real time – Memorabilia – a selection of archival films made by the director Jorge Quintela», describes the autarchy.

The Black Mamba, representatives of Portugal at the Eurovision 2021 Festival, in the Netherlands, perform on the 28th of August, at Parque do Palácio da Galeria.

In September, on the weekend of the Mediterranean Diet Fair, fado is highlighted with a concert by Fábia Rebordão, on the 2nd, and by Sara Correia, on the 4th, both at 22 pm, at Parque do Palace of the Gallery.

Also with regard to this musical style, there will be Fado Galas, promoted by the Fado com História association. On August 20th, perform Raquel Peters, Sara Gonçalves and Teresa Viola. On September 3, the night is for fado singers Aurora Gonçalves, Márcio Gonçalves, Sara Minhalma and Sandra Pacheco.

In terms of names from the local music scene, the projects Osmose (5th of August), Fado Tropical and guests, Sung Poets (6th), Giggy and 4 Soul (19th) and the Tavira Musical Band (the 26th).

On the 11th, at the same place and time, the Dance School D' Dance Company, based in Tavira, presents the show “Contra Luz”.

 

 

But it won't just be on stage that the party will take place. At the Tavira Municipal Museum it is possible to visit, from Tuesday to Saturday, between 9:15 am and 16:30 pm, the exhibitions “A Arte que é – II”, by Pedro Portugal, and “Mediterranean Diet, Millennial Cultural Heritage”.

At the Islamic Center, the new exhibition “De Triana a Tavira. Sevillian ceramics from the XNUMXth to XNUMXth centuries”, as well as “Islamic Tavira”.

In an initiative of the Zer0 Museum, it is possible to visit, at the Ermida de São Roque, from the 3rd to the 19th of August, the exhibition “S(o)al” by the artists Miguel Carvalhais and Pedro Tudela, as well as watch the work of Luís Conceição and Flow Productions , from August 19th to September 11th.

In the first case, it is an exhibition that «explores elements of the geophony and anthropophony of salt — the sounds of its genesis, production and use — and uses salt itself, as a visual, plastic and sculptural element, to build a immersive space'.

In the second case, it is an «exploration between analogue art and digital art, in the context of a religious space», in which the Zer0 Museum «presents a live performance by pianist Luís Conceição, with a digital image as a background, on a screen where the very stories that inspired the musician to produce his works are projected».

«Four works are presented, one of which was created specifically for the Zer0 Museum and is premiering, at this time, Movimento, Aliança Submersa, Reflexos e Caminhada», describes the Town Hall of Tavira.

During this period, handicraft fairs return, in the garden of palm trees, on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, from 18 pm, organized by the associations ASTA, Almadrava and Albacora with the support of the Municipality.

This year's edition of “Summer in Tavira” «intends to guarantee the regularity of programming and represents an investment by the municipality in the economy and culture, through the contracting of numerous services and support for artistic projects at local, regional and national levels».
