São Brás is looking for local producers to supply canteens and food baskets

Within the scope of the Local Food Systems – Local Food 4 Local Economy project

São Brás de Alportel will start supplying canteens and food aid baskets with local production and is convening producers interested in taking part in this project for a meeting that will take place today, July 1, at 15:00 pm, at Centro Artes e Crafts from this village.

The Local Food Systems (SAL) – Local Food 4 Local Economy project, promoted by Associação In Loco, in partnership with the municipality, the Parish Council and the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of São Brás de Alportel, aims to «implement the supply of food aid baskets to needy families and canteens with seasonal products from the municipality».

The initiative, added In Loco, was born "from the will of several partners to promote the development of their territories and access to quality food, through local food systems."

The action takes place «following the training work of key actors for the implementation of sustainable food systems, which is taking place within the scope of the SAL project and which is now entering a phase of promoting pilot initiatives in different municipalities in the Algarve region».

The City Council of São Brás de Alportel, together with the Parish Council and Santa casa da Misericórdia, «aware of the importance of food and its impact on territorial development at a social, economic, environmental and cultural level, meet with the support from Associação In Loco, in a phase of characterizing consumption needs and identifying and mobilizing other partners in the territory, such as agro-food producers».
