Algarve health professionals without vacations yet «not on the table»

"Obviously, if the numbers go up a lot, if you have to stop planned assistance activity, you may have to make that decision, but, for now, it's not on the table," said the secretary of state.

O sacrifice of the holidays, by the health professionals of the Algarve, it is an issue that "is not yet on the table", guaranteed this Friday, July 2, the Deputy Secretary of State and Health, on the sidelines of an initiative in Quarteira.

Questioned by journalists, António Lacerda Sales explained that, despite the Board of Directors of the University Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHUA) having «talked to the professionals, at this moment, the question is not yet posed».

According to yesterday's data, the Sul Informação had access, there are 48 people in hospitals in the Algarve, 12 of them in intensive care.

"It is clear that, if the numbers go up a lot, if you have to stop the planned assistance activity, you may have to make that decision, but, for now, it is not on the table," he said.

In the opinion of the Secretary of State, "while there is normal assistance activity scheduled, the professionals' vacations should not be tampered with", also alerting that, "as is evident, we do not know the epidemiological evolution".

At a time when there was again an increase in Covid-19 cases, António Lacerda Sales considered that the best «strategy is, each one of us, to look at our individual and collective conscience», as well as a bet «on vaccination» .

In the region, said the government official, vaccination "is accompanied by the rest of the country."

"Just this week, there was a booster of 7 vaccines for the Algarve, which means that, at this moment, there is capacity, there are human resources, there are vaccines and it is important to convey this message."

Okay, just yesterday, eight associations linked to tourism, commerce and services came together to propose new specific measures for the Algarve.

In this regard, the Secretary of State for Health referred to the data “from the risk matrix” and to the fact that “we have a national unit”.

“It is clear that then we have other indicators, such as pressure on healthcare, vaccination rates, the variants that we monitor on a daily basis and that are important for making policy decisions. Politics should not interfere with science, but neither should it be held hostage to scientific analysis. They are different times, which often complement each other, but it is necessary to understand this dichotomy», he considered.

For the time being, we are still far from the red lines, "but we have to realize that, being on a rising trend, this could be a cause for concern," he concluded.
