Bird Watching & Nature Activities Festival returns to Sagres in October

This festival is the «largest event of nature and birds in Portugal»

The 12th edition of the Bird Watching & Nature Activities Festival will once again transform Sagres into the stage of the «largest nature and birding event in Portugal». from 1st to 5th of October.

In October, thousands of birds fly over the Algarve, on their way to their territories in Africa, «providing a spectacle worthy of a festival», says the municipality of Vila do Bispo.

“While hundreds of seabirds, such as rump or shearwater, pass off the coast, griffon vultures, short-toed eagles and black storks hover in the air in search of their way to Africa. On land, bushes and trees are stopping places for small birds looking to make the ambitious journey southwards».  

The 12th edition of the Bird Watching & Nature Activities Festival proposes five days of activities for everyone.

Bird watching sessions on land and at sea or ringing sessions are some of the activities that nature lovers can participate in, in order to discover that «the Algarve is much more than a beach».

There will also be tours, walks, lectures and challenges for the younger ones, as well as for the families and friends of bird watchers.

The event is organized by the Municipality of Vila do Bispo, in partnership with the Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds (SPEA) and the Almargem Association.
