Esparto is the subject of the last Qriative Conversation this summer

Conversation is scheduled for the 28th and takes place online

Esparto will be the theme of another “Qriative Conversation”, which will take place on the 28th, at 18 pm, in online format, and will bring together artisans from the Algarve and Andalusia.

In this, which will be the last Qriativa conversation that the QRER cooperative will promote this summer, the history of the use of esparto and artisanal culture, the ecology of materials and the techniques of interweaving and purposes will be discussed.

«Cumulatively, a historical overview of esparto will be made in the village of Sarnadas (Loulé), as well as a summary of the tour “Na Rota do Esparto”, carried out on July 18th», according to the QRER, which promotes the Creative Incubator of Algarve (QRIAR).

In the village of Sarnadas, which was once a center for the production of products in esparto, tradition was lost due to the emergence of other activities in the Algarve, more profitable for the artisans.

Currently, "four female teachers live there, who resume their activity and are determined not to let this custom be lost."

«The purpose of this cycle of events dedicated to esparto is to encourage in new artisans the enthusiasm for the use of this material, instigating the development of artisanal production combined with innovation from new generations, as well as an introduction to the master-apprentice course that will start at 28 September', revealed the cooperative.

The event is free, but those interested must register through this link  until 17:00 pm on July 28, 2021. Afterwards, a link to access the conversation will be sent to the participants.

This event is promoted by the QRER Cooperative under the Magallanes_ICC project, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER), of the Interrreg VA España – Portugal (POCTEP) 2014 – 2020 program.

The project also has the support of the Loulé and Alcoutim Councils, the Union of Parishes of Querença, Tôr and Benafim and the Cândido Guerreiro Professional School.
