The Chamber of Castro Marim this Friday repudiated the non-renewal of the service commission of the "very competent" local health delegate, a decision of the Regional Health Administration of the Algarve which, says that municipality, "is only justified in terms of low policy and in personal persecution».

The Chamber complains of not having been heard, despite being "in the middle of a pandemic and in a municipality at high risk", defending that the decision to "fire" a doctor who has "proven to be very competent, concerned, active and available , namely in the fight against Covid-19”, is, “at the very least, unhappy and inopportune”.

Castro Marim's social-democratic city council executive goes further and says that, «apparently, not to be yes man, being competent and having a good relationship with a non-socialist Chamber, is a condition for being dismissed from office».

Accusations to which the ARS, contacted by Sul Informação, did not want to respond, as he "does not comment on this type of press release".

Even so, this entity pointed out that "the renewals or not of service commissions are normal internal processes, carried out in accordance with Decree-Law 82/2009, republished by Decree-Law 135/2013 which establishes the legal regime of designation, competence and functioning of the entities that exercise the power of health authorities».

As for the fact that we are facing a pandemic, the replacements “do not call into question the work being developed in the field by the Public Health teams in the region and, in this case, by ACeS Sotavento, in the fight against the pandemic”.

The municipality of Castro Marim says it has informed the health minister of the situation “to reverse this decision”.

In February, the Chambers of Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António had already accused the ARS of having refused their help in tracing contacts, at a time when these two municipalities were being heavily affected by Covid-19.

However, the Regional Health Authority claimed that “there were never delays” in following up on cases of infected people, thus justifying the refusal to accept help.

At the same time, Castro Marim advanced with the mass testing of the population, a process that had the support of the local health delegate, but not the Algarve's ARS.

This collaboration will be an example of the "good relationship" that the PSD executive refers to in his criticisms of the ARS.
