Two illegally caught tuna fish in Olhão were apprehended

The seized fish was donated to social solidarity institutions

Two bluefin tuna, with a total weight of around 450 kilos and a value of 8.700 euros, were seized this Tuesday, 6 July, from two boats that were not authorized to fish this fish, in Olhão. 

According to the GNR, “during a police action aimed at preserving marine species, safeguarding the fauna and flora of coastal areas, as well as capturing fish from professional fishing, which had the assistance of the Integrated Command and Surveillance System Control (SIVICC), it was possible to detect two vessels that did not have any kind of authorization to capture that species'.

"The capture of specimens of this species is subject to certain legal requirements, in order to ensure, in the long term, the environmental, economic and social sustainability of fishing, based on available scientific data, and the capture without authorization is considered a very contravention serious, punishable by up to 50 thousand euros», he adds.

The seized fish was donated to social solidarity institutions.
