Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber of Faro, today regretted the way in which the Health Authority announced this Sunday, "unexpectedly", at the end of a Sunday afternoon and at the time of the game of the National Football Team, the suspension of classes for students of the 1st and 2nd cycle in the municipalities of Faro, Albufeira, Loulé, Olhão and São Brás de Alportel.

According to the mayor, there was no prior notice or careful articulation with local authorities and school groups.
Rogério Bacalhau argues that, for the sake of the effectiveness of public measures, and to defend the respect that all citizens deserve, "there should be more articulation between the various entities involved, even taking into account that the municipality has always been a partner of the Health Authority in the fight against the pandemic”.

The mayor of Faro considers that this measure announced by the Regional Health Authority of the Algarve, «with practically immediate effects, translates into a huge inconvenience for the daily lives of families, who, from one moment to another, see their lives totally unstructured».

The Municipality, in a note sent to the newsrooms, emphasizes that “it immediately took steps to support families, namely by providing meals on a take-away basis and also seeking to help groups of schools in the municipality so that distance learning can run smoothly'.

"At a time when the situation of families unexpectedly worsens, the president of the municipality leaves a note of solidarity, but also a recommendation to comply with the guidelines of the Health Authorities in order to improve the epidemiological situation in the municipality and in the region », adds the municipality.

On the other hand, Rogério Bacalhau considers it essential "that inspections of unauthorized gatherings and events are intensified, which have contributed strongly to the increase in epidemic outbreaks in the county and in the region, as well as the vaccination process in the region."

"Despite the effort and commitment of health professionals who are in the field and have been unsurpassed, we are far short of the vaccination capacity, which can go up to around a thousand vaccines per day," stated Rogério Bacalhau.

The mayor also asks that "the Government takes measures for the region that are not just restrictive", to help the economy, "which is already seriously weakened and could suffer again the consequences of the worsening of the pandemic situation."
