The Quarteira Parish Council took advantage of the opening of the bathing season, this Tuesday, June 1st, to raise awareness of the need to deposit butts in proper places and never on the beach or on the ground.
«Intending to reach a cleaner, greener and free of butts, pocket ashtrays were distributed to the parish's beach concessionaires/supporters», says the municipality.
Telmo Pinto, president of the Parish Council, present at this distribution, explained that «this is a challenge for people to end the bad habit of making their street their ashtray and, to a certain extent, make our parish cleaner, reducing the number of butts on public roads and their consequent environmental impact».
This initiative, fully supported by the Parish Council, «is one of the actions that the Council intends to launch, for the collective awareness of the responsibility of all, in the defense of the environment».
