Mexilhoeira Grande Library Center reopens tomorrow in a new location

Polo will work on the ground floor of the Parish Council building

The Manuel Teixeira Gomes Municipal Library pole, in Mexilhoeira Grande, will reopen this Wednesday, July 1st, at 17:30 pm, in a new location, after a year and a half of closed doors. The center will now work on the ground floor of the Parish Council building.

According to the Municipality of Portimão, “the forced closure, due to the confinement imposed by Covid-19, allowed for several changes and improvements, including the move to the ground floor of the Parish Council building of Mexilhoeira Grande, in the direction of to overcome the architectural barriers of the stairs and allow the entire population to enjoy that cultural space, in particular people with limited mobility».

The reopening of the Mexilhoeira Grande Reading Center, which takes place on World Library Day, will be marked with the availability of 24 editorial novelties, only existing in this renovated space, including the books “Maré alta!”, by Nuno Caravela, “ A surprise from heaven” (Barbara O'Connor) and “Night at College” (Rosie Banks).

On the other hand, this municipal equipment, which works from Monday to Friday between 14:00 and 17:00, "was equipped with computer equipment and internet access, having been acquired modern and ergonomic furniture to enable the comfort of users", he praises the Chamber of Portimão.

Although World Library Day is not an official commemoration, "the date aims to highlight the importance of reading in people's education and training, as referred to in the UNESCO Manifesto on Public Libraries", concludes the municipality.
