Online workshops to clarify and guide 3rd cycle and secondary students in their training choices have been taking place since 24th May, in Albufeira, in order to overcome the impossibility of holding the OPTO – Education and Training Forum of the Algarve, held since 2013 in that city.

“Last year, due to Covid-19, we did not make the eighth edition of this initiative, which aims to help our young people to make more conscious decisions about their professional future and about their life, and this year it is not safe either”, explains José Carçps Rolo, mayor of Albufeira and himself a former teacher and director of the local secondary school.

Therefore, adds the mayor, "this is a way of supporting and telling young people that they are not alone in their professional journeys and that there is a future waiting for them."

“In 2022, OPTO will make a comeback”, guarantees José Carlos Rolo.

This training is being given in partnership with the “Inspiring Future” Association and has already started with training aimed at students at the Albufeira Secondary School. For this target of students, training runs until today, June 1st, with workshops being held (one in the morning and one in the afternoon: 8:30 am to 13:30 pm and 15 pm to 00 pm).

From the 1st to the 14th of June, the workshops arrive at the Basic and Secondary School of Albufeira, also with sessions in the morning and in the afternoon (the same times as the previous school).

The following schools will also be covered: Ferreiras Basic School (June 14); Paderne Basic School (15); School EB 2.3 Prof. Diamantina Negrão also (15); Dom Martim Fernandes Basic School (16) and Guia Basic School (16 June).

“We want students to see their questions related to the training and professional choices they will have to make, as well as the decision-making process and access to higher education clarified”, says the mayor.

Secondary students will also have access to an online “Higher Education Fair”, which will be attended by dozens of higher education institutions, where students will be able to gather as much information as possible and schedule more personalized meetings.

The Municipality of Albufeira added that «these trainings complement the work carried out by the psychology and school guidance services, helping young people to build their skills profile and make conscious decisions, in order to achieve their professional ambitions».
