The renovated Municipal Camping Park of Praia de Faro was inaugurated this Saturday, June 26, returning this emblematic space, "now with all conditions, to the community".
18 years after it closed to the public, Praia de Faro back, from Monday, the 28th, to be able to receive whoever he wants. The symbolic inauguration took place earlier this Saturday, with the presence of the mayor of Faro.
To the journalists, Rogério Bacalhau stressed that the space has «all the conditions, it is dignified, and has a phenomenal location, with the sea to the south and the Ria to the north».
But to get to the opening day, it was necessary to face several setbacks.
The old campsite closed to the public in 2003, continuing that municipal land to be occupied by those who were already there and moving, in 2010, to the management of an association governed by private law, through a lending contract with the municipality - which until then, it covered all the expenses inherent to that installation.
The Camping at Praia de Faro returned to the “hands” of the City Council, in November 2019, after several legal struggles, which only, from then on, could start with the works.
Even now, with the renovated space already inaugurated, the difficulties (of a different order) still continue.
«This park should already be operating, but as a result of the pandemic, the work was delayed», said Rogério Bacalhau. One of the issues also “still to improve” is the shading of the camping area.
About 100 small trees were planted, but the municipality is studying the placement of wooden pergolas to provide shade.
The park, which has a total area of 20.372 square meters and capacity for 689 people, has around 200 lots for camping/tents (575 people) and 24 lots for caravanning (114 people).
Still, due to the pandemic, the mayor of Faro he explained that the Park, which also has changing rooms and a games area, will not work "with full capacity".
“There were a lot of people waiting for the park to open, but we are thinking of operating, for the time being, with a third full capacity. It is a management that we are doing, depending on reality», he said.
The space already has, however, an approved regulation that foresees that the reception of the Camping of Praia de Faro open all year round, from September 16th to June 15th, from 8:00 am to 20:00 pm, and from June 16th to September 15th, from 8:30 am to 22:30 pm.
Moreover, the period of stay of users cannot exceed 15 consecutive days. The idea is to allow users to rotate because, considered Rogério Bacalhau, "we are not going back to the old days".
For the mayor, who addressed a «word of appreciation to the people who were here, they knew how to understand the situation and get out», the new campsite is also «a tourist facility, now available to all».
