Citizens can now better share their meteorological observations with IPMA

The Observe initiative is a voluntary cooperation project

The “Observar” project of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), dedicated to voluntary cooperation, now has new features, as a result of the growing interest shown by citizens in meteorological observation.

Thus, the project platform was updated, available by clicking here, endowing it with new features, such as the possibility of sharing more photos or uploading videos by users who witness meteorological phenomena.

"This update follows the increase in submissions of reports by users as a result of increasing sensitivity to the issue of extreme weather phenomena, as well as the increased capacity for sharing information using mobile devices", explains the IPMA .

The Observar initiative is a voluntary cooperation project that allows any citizen to report, in almost real time, the occurrence of severe weather phenomena that he witnesses, by answering a small form called Reports.

This information will be forwarded immediately to the IPMA Weather Analysis and Forecast Center, for the knowledge and use of meteorologists responsible for monitoring the state of the weather.
