Algarve has 505 more active cases than a week ago

According to data disclosed by the District Civil Protection Commission

The Algarve has more than 505 active cases of Covid-19 than a week ago, now totaling 1037, according to data released this Friday, June 25, by the District Civil Protection Commission.

In practice, this means that between the 18th and 23:59 of yesterday, the 24th of June, the number of people with the active disease almost doubled – there were, in all, 532 a week ago.

This increase is linked to the scale of the pandemic in the Algarve region. Over the past week, the Regional Health Authority has counted 685 new cases of the disease, nearly a hundred a day, on average.

Mariana Vieira da Silva, Minister of the Presidency, spoke, moreover, of a "complex" situation in the Algarve, moments after announcing the retreat from Albufeira and Lagos into mistrust and the non-advancement of Loulé, but also that there are six other municipalities in the Algarve on alert.

In this case, we are talking about incidence, which, as revealed today by the General Directorate of Health, is particularly high in three Algarve municipalities, more precisely Albufeira (494 cases(, Loulé (287) and Olhão (237), which have more than 240 cases per 100 inhabitants.

There are also six other municipalities above 120 cases per 100 inhabitants – Silves (124), Lagoa (145), Portimão (151), Faro (190), São Brás de Alportel (230) and Lagos (237).

These are also the nine municipalities that have the most active cases, although in this case the list has a different order.

The Algarve municipality with the most active cases, this Friday, is Loulé, with 221 people fighting the disease. Also in the top three are Albufeira (196) and Faro (163)

This is followed by Olhão (130), Portimão (103), Lagos (81), Silves (54), Lagoa (33), São Brás de Alportel (25), Tavira (16), Aljezur (6), Vila Real de Santo António (5), Vila do Bispo (3) and Monchique (1).

Alcoutim and Castro Marim remain without any active cases.

With regard to the number of deaths, there were two more over the last week, bringing the total in the Algarve, since the beginning of the pandemic, to 359.

The number of recovered people rose 205 in the last week, which means that, since March 2020, 21.919 people have already overcome the disease in the region.
