Sam Bennett (Deceuninck-Quick-Step) won today the initial stage of the Volta ao Algarve, an 189,5 km stretch that started in Lagos and ended in Portimão.

Second place in the stage was secured by Danny Van Poppel (Intermarche-Wanty-Gobert Materiaux), while Jon Aberasturi (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA) secured third.

The victory of the Irish rider of Deceuninck-Quick-Step, who finished the race in 4h37m41s, is not surprising, in a stage that ended in the sprint, since Sam Bennett is the most victorious sprinter of 2021.
