«We will continue this walkway to Quarteira, because our objective is to come on foot or by bicycle, from Vilamoura Marina to the outer perimeter of the Airport of Faro», announced Vítor Aleixo, mayor of Loulé, this Friday, May 7, at the inauguration of the first phase of the Loulé Litoral Walkways, on Ancão beach.

As part of the Polis Program, a footbridge is being created that will connect Quinta do Lago to Quarteira, in an extension of 7802 meters.

The first phase of the project, which links Vale do Garrão to Quinta do Lago (Ludo), was inaugurated today, with the presence of João Pedro Matos Fernandes, Minister of Environment and Climate Action, and the president of the Loulé municipality Victor Aleixo.

As for the second phase, which is, for now, the responsibility of the Câmara de Loulé, it will involve the continuation of the walkways to Quarteira.

The project will also include the creation of six rest areas and the rehabilitation of adjacent spaces, as well as the removal of invasive plants, the planting of pine trees and the construction of palisades to protect the dunes.

The contract also allowed for the creation of a car park next to Ancão beach, with 427 conventional spaces, 16 for people with reduced mobility, as well as four areas for motorcycles and four for entities.

The total area of streets and parking is over 11 thousand square meters, and an area for walks of more than two thousand square meters is also contemplated.

The total investment is 3,7 million euros.

For the minister Matos Fernandes, these projects are "of the greatest importance", as they allow "to cement knowledge, but also cement the relationship of territorial management, shared between the Central Administration and the local authorities".

The inauguration was also attended by the Secretary of State for the Environment Inês dos Santos Costa, the chairman of the Parish Council of Almancil Joaquim Pinto, and the presidents of Sociedade Polis Litoral da Ria Formosa, José Pacheco, and of CCDR Algarve, José Apolinário.

At the end of the inauguration, the minister only answered three questions from national media. Regional media journalists such as the Sul Informação, had no right to ask questions to the governor, who left the place soon after.
