On its day, Europe is back in the STREET

Special issue starts at 12:00

The program “A Rua da Europa” debuts on the antenna of RUA FM (Rádio Universitária do Algarve), this Sunday, 9th of May, the date that marks Europe Day. The debut of the new section will take place during a special broadcast, dedicated to this event, which will be broadcast, between 12:00 and 14:00, on 102.7FM or on www.street.pt.

The target audience of this programme, promoted by Europe Direct Algarve and the Documentation Center of the University of Algarve, in partnership with the MOVE Network, are young people.

«Young people as agents for promoting development, organized or in informal groups, but also isolated young people, for whom policies, measures and projects are built daily with the objective of greater inclusion», explains the University of Algarve.

«This is a radio program and the objective is to transmit useful information about the European Union (EU) and to make known projects for young people and/or for young people, initiated by public entities or private actors, in the Algarve and in the border area of the Province of Huelva. The aim is to deepen European citizenship among young people and thus make Europe closer,” adds the Algarve academy.

The weekly program, which will air on Mondays (starting next week) has several items, including the Speak Corner – a space where, through different languages, we are introduced to a set of typical expressions and useful for day-to-day communication in an increasingly intercultural society.

The weekly Highlight talks about who, in the Algarve and in cross-border cooperation, develops projects with and for young people.

The new program also has space for interesting facts and useful information about initiatives or programs of the European Union.

The production, supported by RUA FM, «has a diverse team of communicators, students from UAlg and also some young people who are carrying out Erasmus projects in the Algarve (students or volunteers), from various parts of the EU».

RUA FM was chosen to broadcast this program “due to the fact that it is a university radio that is listened to by many young people”, emphasizes the University of Algarve.

According to Alexandre Moura, RUA FM's Information and Contents coordinator, this program is intended to «clarify young people in European matters, add something to their lives and provide them with a broadcast that leaves them eagerly awaiting the following week».

With regard to this Sunday's special broadcast, it starts at midday with an interview with Maria João Barradas, from the European Documentation Center of the University of Algarve, and one of those responsible for creating the “Rua da Europa”.

Afterwards, the program nº 1 of “Rua da Europa” will be broadcast and there will be an interview with Filipa Fonseca, founder of 'SPEAK Faro – Language & Culture Exchange', a project that aims to bring foreigners and natives together to create a support network, stimulate group events, and, above all, teach languages in a shared logic.

Mamadu Alimo Djaló, former RUA FM collaborator and founder of the African project 'Muntu' will be the next interviewee. This is a project for gender equality through the defense of a positive masculinity in the migrant community of the PALOP in Portugal.

Between 13:00 and 14:00, the program by African music author, 'On the rails of Africa', written by Didier Grelha, will be broadcast, in a special edition dedicated exclusively to music originating in the PALOP.

The issue dedicated to Europe Day will follow later on RUC (Radio University of Coimbra), from 14 pm, and at RUM (Radio Universitária do Minho), from 16:00 pm.
