The Chamber of Faro is installing bicycle parking in all school groups in the municipality, under the Municipality's Mobility and Transport Plan.
In total, 80 pieces of equipment will be installed, «with the objective of contributing to the promotion of sustainable mobility, thus stimulating the use of the bicycle as a preferred means of transport and promoting a more ecological trip to school», says the City Council of Faro.
The equipment is duly approved by the competent authorities and is being assembled in accordance with current regulations.
These interventions in school establishments come after a process of dialogue between municipal technicians and schools, who «from the beginning have shown their unequivocal support for the development of this measure, which consolidates the bicycle parking network in school areas, considered as centers generators of displacement”, explains the municipality.
The purchase, transport and installation of racks for bicycle parking was awarded to the company Biciway LDA., in February, for the value of more than 18,5 thousand euros.
So far 70 supports have been installed, and the rest are expected to be assembled by the end of the week.
