Faro welcomes initiative of Solidarity with Palestine

Initiative demands that Portuguese government condemn Israel "for its occupation policy"

An initiative of “Solidarity with Palestine and the Palestinian people, demanding an end to the aggression and occupation of Palestine” will take place this Saturday, the 22nd, at 10:30 am, at Largo do Mercado, in Faro, in an organization of the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC), Union of Unions of the Algarve of CGTP-In and Democratic Movement of Women.

The CPPC stresses that "the Palestinian people have been waiting for decades for the promised creation of a Palestinian State", but also "the Israeli occupation has been extending for decades, with more settlements, more annexations, more expulsions, more violence and war." subjecting "Palestinian workers to discrimination and arbitrary wages and rights, denies the right to work, generalizes poverty, is a source of brutal exploitation."

In addition, he stresses, "the promises and resolutions of the United Nations have been unfulfilled for decades." Furthermore, "what is happening in Palestine is not a conflict, it is a violent occupation, illegal and an attack on the human rights and national rights of the Palestinian people."

Hence, the organizers of this solidarity initiative demand “the Portuguese Government to abandon its shocking position of placing the aggressor and the attacked, oppressor and oppressed on an equal footing, to condemn Israel for its crimes and its occupation policy and to speak out for protection of the Palestinian people and their right to their independent, sovereign and viable state».

Organizers guarantee that "the recommendations for safeguarding public health will be respected" during Saturday's initiative at the market square.
