Moto GP: Miguel Oliveira crashes and only finishes race "out of respect for the Portuguese"

The Portuguese driver was unable to repeat last year's victory

The Portuguese rider Miguel Oliveira (KTM) suffered a fall, at turn 14, in the Grand Prix of Portugal in MotoGP, which took place this Sunday at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve, in Portimão. The fall threw him into 16th place, with the KTM driver confessing that he only finished the race "out of respect for the team and the Portuguese".

Miguel Oliveira, who had suffered another fall in training yesterday, ended up not being able – as was predicted – to repeat last year's victory, on this same circuit in Portimão. After starting from 10th position on the grid, the rider admitted that he had not achieved "a very good start", due to difficulties on his bike.

«I felt the front tire moving a lot when braking and that made it even more difficult to overtake», explained Miguel Oliveira, quoted by his KTM team.

After slipping and falling at turn 14, «I got on the bike and continued until the end out of respect for the team, the viewers and the Portuguese fans. This was not the spectacle I wanted to give. We have to overcome this and focus on the future”.

With this final 16th place, Miguel Oliveira finished one lap away from the winner, Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) and went down to 18th place in the championship, with four points.
