Sagres Exhibition Center advances to the last phase

The assignment of the contract for the Exhibition Center and Museographic Installation on the Promontório de Sagres will be signed by the regional director of Culture of the Algarve, on the 4th of May, thus opening the doors to an investment amounting to almost one and a half million euros, with an execution period of 190 days.

According to the regional directorate of Culture, «the exhibition center museographic project intends to lead the visitor to reflect on the singular value of this territory, from Antiquity to the present day, and how it relates to the “Portuguese Discoveries” and the figure of Infante D. Henrique».

The new space will provide visitors with an interactive experience on the relevance of Sagres to human history. The first floor will be used for temporary exhibitions, which will provide visitors with new perspectives and perspectives, either through a more historical content or through a contemporary look, fostering an attitude of discovery and questioning.

In recent years, the regional department of Culture of the Algarve has carried out several interventions in the Fortaleza de Sagres, within the scope of the Requalification and Enhancement of the Promontory of Sagres Project, with the financial support of Turismo de Portugal and European funds, through submitted applications and approved by CCDR Algarve.

With the project now nearing completion, «the intention is to improve the conditions for the use of the Fortress of Sagres, as well as increase the notoriety of this national monument, as a cultural reference for the region, the country and the world», stresses that regional direction .

O Sul Informação found that, after it was originally presented in May 2012, the project for the Exhibition Center was updated in 2018, and this version is now going to be implemented.

The recognition of Sagres Promontory as a European Heritage Label, in 2015, gave new prominence to the monument, recognizing its symbolic European value and the role it played in common European history and in the construction of the European Union, as well as in the values ​​and human rights of Europe that underpin the process of European integration.

The inspection is in charge of the company P ao Cubo. The work of the Exhibition Center was awarded to the Edigma SA, Displax SA and Rui Vilaça Pinheiro Lda.
