Câmara de Loulé is investing "heavily" in energy efficiency

Currently, photovoltaic energy production projects in Loulé already allow global savings of around 300 euros per year

The Loulé Council is investing "strongly" in the energy efficiency of the county's educational establishments and of the buildings of the social solidarity institutions (IPSS), a measure that contributes not only to the fight against climate change, but also to « reduce costs and monetize assets by assigning new functions'.

According to the municipality of Loulé, the IPSS that have already adhered to the energy efficiency program developed by the City Council «installed a power amounting to 330 kWp, representing an investment of around 500 thousand euros and a saving in the global monthly bill estimated at 7500 euros.

At the same time, the municipality of Loulé is developing an innovative pilot project at the Professor Sebastião Teixeira School, in Salir, “with the creation of a school energy community, aimed at self-consumption and its energy sustainability”.

“But the investment in schools is much broader, with a plan for eco-valorization of educational establishments being implemented. The power already installed is 300 kWp, and in the very short term, another 170 kWp is expected to be installed, which will result in a total power of 470 kWp, in the 14 establishments considered», according to the City Council of Loulé.

The municipality recalls that the work it has been developing in terms of energy transition «has been marked by several investments in buildings such as the Municipal Market of Loulé, where renewable energies were introduced to promote energy efficiency at the site, with the installation of 60 kWp» .

«However, in the Loulé Municipal Swimming Pool complex, work is underway for the installation of photovoltaic panels with a power of 50 kWp and LED lighting, in order to make these buildings more sustainable and more environmentally friendly. a similar intervention in the Municipal Swimming Pools of Quarteira”, he added.

The investment in the installation of photovoltaic panels, in the municipality of Loulé, is not limited to municipal equipment, «since the companies (Infraquinta, Infralobo and Inframoura) have already installed 170 kWp».

«In other words, at the present time, the municipality of Loulé already has a total power of more than 1.080 KWp, with direct gains not only in terms of savings in billing (estimated at around 25 thousand euros a month or 300 thousand euros a year) , as well as in terms of reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, assuming a reduction of around 750 tonnes of CO2 per year», concluded the City Council of Loulé.
