Hunting and fishing associations prevent fires in Terras do Infante

Hunting and fishing associations in Terras do Infante will help to clear the forest, as a way of preventing fires, in this territory that includes the municipalities of Aljezur, Lagos and Vila do Bispo.

The association that joins the three municipalities of Barlavento signed program contracts with the Association of Hunters of Carvalhinho and Rochedo, the Hunting and Fishing Association of São Gonçalo, the Lagoa Sobrosa Fishing and Hunting Club, the Hunting and Fishing Club of the Municipality of Aljezur and the Moinho do Coreino Fishing and Hunting Club to carry out preventive silviculture actions, namely «road cleaning, fire breaks in dense forest areas, “mosaics” for fuel management and seedings».

These associations “will promote actions to clear the forest in about 180 hectares”, with the Association of Municipalities Terras do Infante (AMTI) guaranteeing the payment of 40 thousand euros.

Meanwhile, since last year, «cleaning and maintenance works on the Primary Network of Fuel Management Strips, in an area of ​​about 900 hectares, have been underway, as well as the construction of a new section of this same network, in the municipality of Aljezur , in an area of ​​around 300 hectares', according to AMTI.

“All these works constitute a decisive and efficient factor in the prevention/protection of rural fires and in their fight”, concluded Terras do Infante.
