Want to plant an autochthonous tree? ICNF offers

This year, ICNF celebrates the International Day of Forests involving all citizens

The Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF) provides 50.000 native trees produced in its nurseries, free of charge, to citizens and rural landowners who wish to plant crops on their properties. The initiative is intended to mark the International Day of Forests, which takes place on the 21st of March.

This distribution will take place between the 19th and 26th of March at selected ICNF service stations throughout the country. In the Algarve, there are three collection sites: the Forest Nursery of Monte Gordo, the Environmental Education Center at Quinta de Marim, in Olhão, and Largo do Infantário, in Chinicato (Lagos).

In Alentejo, trees can be collected in Beja, Mértola, Odemira, Moura, Santo André (Monte do Paio), Alcácer do Sal (Valverde), Évora, Ponte de Sôr and Portalegre (see the addresses in the list below).

What to do to obtain these trees from native species? You must register to collect the trees by contacting the selected location by telephone or by email to [email protected];

You must also identify yourself at the collection points at the agreed time, as well as commit to sending a photo of the plantation to the email [email protected] and also share or allow the sharing of photos with the hashtag #ICNFsomosTODOSnos.

ICNF, in turn, will publicize these plantations on its social networks.

In 1872, in Nebraska (USA), faced with the scarcity of trees and forests, the population decided to dedicate a day to planting trees.

The initiative went international and the Festival went from the Tree to the Forests and, since 2012, the International Day of Forests is celebrated on March 21, marking the beginning of Spring, to celebrate and raise awareness of the importance of all types of forests .
