First meeting of the Lagos Nautical Station involved 70 partners

The project is promoted by the City Council, which integrates the Network of Nautical Stations of Portugal

The first meeting of the network of partners of Estação Náutica de Lagos took place on March 22, by videoconference, with the participation of more than 70 partners, including companies, official entities and individuals.

This meeting was attended by the Mayor Hugo Pereira, the coordinator of the Network of Nautical Stations of Portugal, António José Correia, and the project manager of the Lagos Nautical Station, Rui Calado.

The president of the Algarve Tourism Region, João Fernandes and the regional director of the IPDJ, as well as the president of AHETA took the opportunity to address the importance of these stations for the economy and tourism of the Algarve.

«Lagos, as a way to emerge stronger and more dynamic from the pandemic state, is constituted as a Nautical Station and is confidently awaiting certification by the Forum Oceano evaluation committee and its integration into the Network of Nautical Stations in Portugal, currently made up of 24 stations» , stresses the local Chamber, responsible for the project.

The Nautical Stations (EN) are characterized by being quality nautical tourist offer networks, which include accommodation, restaurants, nautical activities and relevant services to attract tourists and other users, adding value and creating diversified and integrated experiences.

Through the constitution of the Lagos Nautical Station, the municipality intends to «diversify the tourist offer, combat seasonality and jointly promote tourist products at national and international level».

This project, presented as an "aggregator and collaborative", brings together several partners and stakeholders national, regional and municipalities with a direct or indirect relationship with the sea, nautical and tourism sectors, which, of their own volition, decided to integrate the network of partners and the Council of the Lagos Nautical Station. There are already more than 80 partners involved and ten ambassadors who carry the name of Lagos around the world.

In Lagos, «the sea is a strategic vocation for the municipality and the city, due to the historical weight of the Discoveries and their heritage», stresses the municipality.

The county has favorable conditions for the development of nautical and sports tourism in general, particularly in terms of internships and major events.

«The mild temperatures, the framing of the Bay of Lagos are natural characteristics for the practice of sports and leisure activities in an aquatic environment along the more than 17 kilometers of coastline. On the other hand, the natural spaces in the interior, such as the National Forest of Barão de São João and the Bravura dam, constitute a potential to be explored in the context of sports and leisure», emphasizes the Lacobrigense City Council.
