Hospitality asks for similar support to those forced to close

96% of AHP members adhered to the simplified 'layoff', 75% to the progressive take-back support and 31% to the covid-19 helpline.

The Hotel Association of Portugal (AHP) reiterated today that the sector needs support similar to the data it was forced to close and asked for the reinforcement and continuation of the support lines.

"The hotel industry lacks a support profile [such as the one] that has been traced to the rest of the industries", reiterated today the executive president of AHP, Cristina Siza Vieira, during the presentation to journalists of the survey "Balanço 2020 & Perspectivas 2021" .

According to the official, even with the operation stopped, the maintenance of a hotel unit has high costs.

“Because we were not forced to close, we have to support the workers' TSU [single social tax]”, exemplified the responsible.

Additionally, AHP has given note to the Government that the lines of support must be continued, as well as strengthened, namely that of support to exporting companies, which, according to Cristina Sai Vieira, the hotel industry “could not reach”, because sold out with orders from the industrial sector.

"There are necessary measures, we are waiting for them to continue, it has been announced that this is the case, that, in fact, the gateway to tourism in Portugal, which is the hotel industry, will not be dropped," said the executive president of AHP .

According to the survey released today, in 2020, 96% of AHP members adhered to the simplified 'lay off', 75% to support the progressive recovery and 31% to the covid-19 support line (allocation of 900 million euros).

The data collected also showed that, of the housing units closed in 2020, 76% did not give the establishment any other use, “because there was no demand”, and 17% destined its use to health professionals.

The survey was carried out between the 4th and the 28th of February, by the AHP Studies and Statistics Office, with the tourist enterprises associated and adhering to the AHP Tourism Monitors, from all regions of the country.
