Delivery of Easter bells to CHUA professionals

The Cooking and Pastry trainers at the Portimão School of Hotel and Tourism made Easter cakes to give to the health professionals of the University Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHUA), «as a form of thanks and recognition for the work done in favor of the community». The necklaces were delivered on May 26, at the hospital in Portimão, with the presence of Ana Castro, president of the Board of Directors of CHUA.

According to Tânia Neves, promoter of the cabinet talent spot at EHT Portimão, “due to the pandemic situation in which we find ourselves, we are developing some activities in our school in the field of mental health, since, as we are deprived of our freedom and anxious about the future, it is natural that our mental health be more fragile”.

“As a school, our greatest concern is, without a doubt, the well-being of our students. In this sense, we are seeking to develop dynamic pedagogical activities that promote knowledge, creativity, innovation and, on the other hand, actions that provide well-being and that provide students and us, trainers and teachers, with some tools that allow to identify problematic situations, in a timely manner”, he added.

Therefore, “feeling good and recognized in our workplace are determining factors that motivate us to want to do more and better. Inspired by the initiatives that we are developing at our school, we came up with the idea of publicly expressing our gratitude and recognition to the health professionals who have worked hard over the past few months”, said Tânia Neves.

“As we were in the middle of the Easter season and the courses of Cooking and Pastry Technician and Kitchen Management and Production were part of our training offer, it was very clear that we realized how we could show our gratitude: through the offer of pastries! And so it was".

If the students were in classes at EHT Portimão, they would have been the ones to make the folares themselves. However, taking into account that they were taking online classes, “it was the chefs of the institution that literally got their hands dirty”, explained the person in charge.

This initiative took place within the scope of the office. talent spot, which is characterized as an emotional support service / referral of the student to the competent authorities, counseling on career management and promotion of workshops, webinars, awareness-raising actions in the most varied areas that contribute to the personal and professional enrichment of students.

At the same time, the activity is also part of the Eco-Schools program, where numerous activities are developed in the area of environmental education for sustainability, social responsibility and solidarity, based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
