Elidérico Viegas will no longer be the president of the Association of Hotels and Touristic Enterprises of the Algarve (AHETA), a position he has held for 25 years, since he helped found this entity, in 1995.

The businessman, who has been the face of hoteliers for decades, will present his resignation on Monday, after being called by other members of the AHETA board to explain statements made to the Journal i, in which the other leaders of the association say that "they do not review and cannot subscribe".

«In a meeting immediately called, the management listened to Mr. president and was informed of his intention to resign from this governing body of AHETA, which will be presented by himself to mr. President of the General Assembly, next Monday, March 29», they frame.

Despite the dismissal being motivated by differences of vision between Elidérico and the other directors of the association, the direction of AHETA, in a statement, made a point of «recognizing the relevant role of the current president of the direction of AHETA, since the formal constitution of the association, in defense of the interests of tourist companies in the Algarve and the affirmation of AHETA as the most influential and representative business association in the region, which constitutes itself as the main tourist destination in the country».

«Following this decision, the remaining members of the Board in office will request the President of the General Assembly to call elections for the governing bodies of AHETA, as soon as possible, in order to strengthen the association's capacity for intervention in this a critical period that tourist companies in the Algarve are and will have to continue to overcome», they conclude.

The communiqué is signed by Pedro Lopes, Joel Pais, Reinaldo Teixeira, Rúben Paula, Jorge Beldade, Luís Correia da Silva, Martinho Fortunato and José Queiroga Valentim.

Elidérico Viegas is president of AHETA, of which he has been a founding partner since 1995. Before that, he was already the regional director of the Hotel Association of Portugal.

As an entrepreneur in the tourism sector, he started his activity in 1976, but his connection to tourism began a decade earlier, in 1966.

He was the leader and founder of several business associations, both national and regional, and is the honorary consul of the Republic of Poland in the Algarve.

O Sul Informação tried to contact Elidérico Viegas, but this has not been possible so far.
