Searches continue to find missing elderly woman in São Brás de Alportel

The local authority keeps "the hope" of finding this elderly woman

Authorities continue this Monday, March 22, the searches to find Maria Idalina Viegas, a 93 year old woman who has been missing since the afternoon of the 18th, in the municipality of São Brás de Alportel.

Maria Idalina is a resident of Cova da Muda, but «after four days of tireless efforts, it was still not possible to find our countrywoman», says the City Council of São Brás de Alportel.

Even so, the autarchy maintains “hope and the firm will to find it, with new means and actions”.

The operation, coordinated by the Territorial Detachment of Faro of the GNR, this Sunday counted again with a vast contingent of 42 GNR troops, supported by 12 vehicles, a team of the São Brás de Alportel Fire Brigade and elements of the Municipal Civil Protection Service and the Municipality's Social Services.

“To this hard mission, more than fifty volunteers from the community were joined, in an exemplary display of civic spirit and solidarity”, says the municipality.

Several specialized teams from the Territorial Command of Faro, elements of the GIC – Cinotechnic Intervention Group of the Lisbon Intervention Unit and elements of the CINODI Cinotechnic Section of the Territorial Command of Évora, manned and unmanned aerial resources, namely with the team of operators of drones of the Emergency, Protection and Relief Unit.

On behalf of the community, the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel thanks, in this press release, «all the effort and commitment of all the soldiers of the various teams of the GNR, who were on the ground, throughout all the days», as well as «to the elements of the Volunteer Fire Brigade; to the workers of the municipality, and to all volunteers from São Paulo, who accepted the appeal launched and revealed their altruism and solidarity».

All help remains to be welcomed as well.

The municipality appeals, once again, to the entire community, so that all information that may be relevant in this search operation can reach the GNR, through 289 840 800.

“We appeal to those who are available and in physical condition, to help with field searches, to go to Cova da Muda and contact the GNR, on the spot or via 289 840 800 for guidance”, he concludes.
