Searches for a missing 93-year-old woman in Cova da Muda continue this Sunday

Chamber calls for help from volunteers

The search for 93-year-old Adelina Viegas, a resident of Cova da Muda, São Brás de Alportel, who has been missing since the afternoon of Thursday, March 18, continues this Sunday.

The Chamber of São Brás de Alportel yesterday launched an appeal to ask for help "to all who can join this mission."

"If you are in good physical condition, go to the center of the Cova da Muda site, from 08:30 am, next to the GNR command post, where you will get directions."

The operation, coordinated by the Territorial Detachment of Faro, this Saturday had a vast contingent of 45 GNR troops, who were joined by a team from the São Brás de Alportel Volunteer Firefighters, the Municipality's Social Services and fifty volunteers. The searches were supported by 12 vehicles and also by a helicopter.

On the ground, there were several teams from the Territorial Command of Faro, elements of the GIC – Cinotechnic Intervention Group of the Lisbon Intervention Unit and elements of the CINODI Cinotechnic Section of the Territorial Command of Évora.

This operation has also already relied on manned and unmanned aerial means, namely with the team of Drone operators from the Emergency, Protection and Relief Unit.

If you have any information that might be useful in this search, we ask that you send it to the GNR, by calling 289 840 800!

«To all the military, firefighters and volunteers, who have been tireless in this mission, the Municipality is gratefully grateful for all the effort shown! To the family of our fellow countrywoman, our fraternal embrace, with hope and solidarity!” concludes the note from the local authority.
