Almargem offers a quiz and short film that appeal to the need to save water

Project “#AÚltimaGota_Algarve” took place during the last quarter of 2020

A mascot, called “Ping”, a short film and an online game. Associação Almargem is «committed to continuing the campaign “#AÚltimaGota_Algarve”» and is now providing awareness-raising materials related to this initiative.

The “#AÚltimaGota_Algarve” project, which took place during the last quarter of 2020, “was the main objective of informing and developing new awareness tools and platforms, aimed at the general public and the school public, for a change in attitudes and behaviors in the management of water, a precious and scarce resource», explains Almargem.

The campaign now has a new mascot, resulting from the challenge launched to students of the Communication Design Course at the University of Algarve, in October last year. “Ping”, the name chosen in a survey by the followers of the Association's Facebook page, was the winning proposal by Mariana Pires, a 3rd year student of the course at that institution.

A Animated short film #AÚltimaGota_Algarve, produced by Flow Productions, «launches the alert for a behavioral change, given the unrestrained consumption of water we are currently witnessing in the Algarve region».

«The message, broadcast on Almargem's digital channels, seeks to encourage the public to reflect on the impact of their own actions and to look for alternatives», says Almargem.

O online game in quiz format, added to Almargem's existing website and developed by Visualforma, will test the knowledge of the participants, from the youngest to the adults, on the theme of water.

In a "light", playful and didactic way, the player is put to the test and, in the end, based on the number of correct answers, he will receive a "title" with the following classifications: "Wasteful", "No Bom Caminho", “Poupadinho” or “Water Guardian”.

These materials will also serve as educational tools for schools in the 16 municipalities of the Algarve, encouraging teachers to use them to explore this theme with their students.

In addition to the short film and the quizzes, a Water Footprint Form will also be sent. With the help of this form, students will be able to calculate the water consumption resulting from their daily activities and also what is involved in the production of the goods and services they enjoy. The objective is to share your results with the class and the teacher and lead to a discussion about the best strategies to reduce your consumption.

When the restrictive measures are exceeded due to the pandemic, "it will also be possible to carry out environmental education activities in schools, aimed at 1st cycle students", says Almargem.

Students will be able to participate in a pedagogical “Jogo da Glória” (Glory Game), being the pawns on a giant board, and can only advance if they correctly answer questions about water. In all issues, a framework will be made and the fundamental materials for raising awareness among young people will be transmitted.

In the coming months, the “Digital Guide – Water saving tips and environmental policy decoder” will be released, which aims to encourage the adoption and change of behaviors that lead to efficient use and saving of water, awakening or increasing their environmental awareness. It will be available for download from the association's website.

A traveling exhibition will also be presented that will provide the visitor with an interactive experience, leading him to know information about water consumption in the world, in Portugal and in the Algarve, funneling this approach to different areas such as the domestic sector, agriculture, the golf courses and tourism.

These materials and other news on this topic are available on Almargem's website, at www.almargem.org, and also on the association's Facebook.

The “#AÚltimaGota_Algarve” project has the support and contribution of a working group made up of partners, volunteers from different areas, with interest and knowledge in the themes of water use, agriculture, waste water reuse and environmental and civic intervention.
