Uber Eats, a platform for the delivery of meals at home, will “temporarily” suspend the service in Vila Real de Santo António and Guia, as of this Thursday, February 18th, advances the ECO.

According to the newspaper, which cites an email sent to partners, Uber Eats says it will “stop operating from Thursday, February 18th, at closing time. Knowing the impact this decision will have on your business, we hope to soon be able to reverse this situation».

In the message sent, cited by ECO, Uber Eats holds the Government responsible for the decision to stop operating in the three locations – Águeda will also have the service suspended. «The Government decreed limitations to our business model, which have been extended and that have direct impacts on our operation and sustainability», refers the company.

The company refers to the Government's decision, imposed in January, to limit the commissions that delivery platforms can charge to restaurants to 20%.

Uber Eats considers, cited by the ECO, that «this decision limits our ability to cover our operating costs, namely delivery costs, so we had to temporarily review the areas where we are operating».
