Monchique will reward creative and entrepreneurial business ideas

Prizes vary between 2500 and 3000 euros

The Monchique City Council launched the Business Ideas Award “Monchique creative and entrepreneur”, which will have applications open between 1 and 31 March.

This initiative by the municipality «has the objective of capturing business ideas and developing the spirit of entrepreneurial initiative in the municipality of Monchique».

In a note sent to the editorial offices, the Municipality of Monchique emphasizes that, «bearing in mind a new reality and aware that this pandemic brought with it restrictions, mainly in terms of family income, the Municipality encourages the creation and development of business ideas, supporting the economic dynamization of the county».

The municipality emphasizes that "opportunities arise from crises" that "it is with this premise and with this opportunity that" it launches and promotes this award, hoping "that new opportunities may arise, even in the face of restrictions, fears and uncertainties and that the behavioral changes due to the pandemic to design new projects».

The digital age «is here to stay and it is hoped that this new trend will be a lever for new ideas, creation and entrepreneurship», adds the Câmara de Monchique.

The award is divided into two categories: “Innovation” and “Traditional Arts and Crafts”.

In the case of the “Innovation” award, individuals over 18 years of age can compete, individually or in a group. In relation to the “Traditional Arts and Crafts” award, natural persons aged between 18 and 36 years with training in the profession to be developed can participate.

According to Monchique City Council, “one of the main focuses of this initiative is the support for a small list of activities considered traditional, and the recovery of old professions such as shoemakers, tailors or barbers.

The winning idea in the “Innovation” section will be entitled to a monetary prize of 2500 euros, of which 500 euros will be delivered on the day of presentation of the winner and the rest will be made available with the presentation of a copy of the Declaration of Start Activity, proving the implementation project business.

Ideas related to the recovery of “Traditional Arts and Crafts” will be entitled to a 3000 euros prize. In this case, 500 euros will be allocated on the date of submission of the Declaration of Start of Activity, in the respective CAE, and the remaining amount will be paid with the presentation of invoices for equipment essential to the development of the activity, up to a limit of 2500 euros.

Winning applications will have to maintain the activity for a minimum period of 24 months after the last payment from the municipality, otherwise they will have to return 2000 and 2500 euros respectively.

Applications can be delivered to the Municipality of Monchique or sent by registered mail with acknowledgment of receipt, as long as the entry stamp at the CTT does not exceed the 31st of March.
