Inframoura 'advances by ten years' European decarbonization target

Loulé municipal company moved towards the acquisition of 100% clean energy to “power” the buildings and facilities under its management.

Inframoura is preparing to «anticipate the European target of decarbonization by ten years, avoiding the emission of around 3.300 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2)», by moving towards the acquisition of 100% clean energy to “feed” buildings and facilities under its management.

The municipal company of the municipality of Loulé, responsible for the management of infrastructure and public space in Vilamoura and adjacent urban centers, opened an international public tender «for the purchase of energy for all buildings and installations», which «establishes as mandatory the supply of energy 100% sourced from renewable sources'.

“There will be more than 460 MWh for a total period of 3 years. This option arises from a perspective of reinvesting the benefits generated by the savings obtained through the production of own energy by the photovoltaic systems that have been implemented (with 80kwp already in operation), as well as the efficiency gains that have been generated, as a result from a systematic analysis and action to the various systems responsible for energy consumption, as well as for the awareness and training of employees», describes Inframoura, which in 2020 has already guaranteed certification under the ISO 50001 standard – Energy Management Systems.

The company says it will reinforce the "UN's commitment to sustainable development allied to the Loulé Municipal Climate Change Adaptation Strategy", by "reducing more than 55% of its total emissions (with reference to the year 2018 it served) basis for the development of the decarbonisation plan').

"With this measure, Inframoura anticipates the goal set in December 2020 by the European Council to reduce CO55 emissions by 2% for 2030, which will result in the entire process of storage and distribution of water and water drainage residuals become carbon neutral», concluded Inframoura.
