Faro there will be Fernando Silva Grade Tour

There will also be a Tour of Poets

Faro there will be a Fernando Silva Grade Tour, at Ribeirinho Park, in honor of this illustrious Farense, deceased in September 2019.

This new toponym has already been approved at a chamber meeting held on February 1st.

Biologist by training, Fernando Silva Grade was a renowned plastic artist and environmental activist, defender of civic causes and a staunch defender of the cultural and architectural heritage of the Algarve and Faro.

The Chamber of Faro awarded him the gold medal of merit in 2018, on his day in the City, and says that «he now comes to perpetuate, with this attribution, his name and the noble cause he embraced».

The municipality also approved three new place-names. One of them is the Passeio dos Poetas, which will continue with the Passeio Fernando Silva Grade.

In this case, the objective is «to honor great Portuguese authors, with special emphasis on Algarve authors». It is intended the future placement, in supports to be defined, of extracts from poems by these authors.

In addition, Faro it will have a “Travessa da Penha”, the name given to the street that connects Estrada da Penha to Rua Jornal “O Algarve” and which had no designation.

Finally, there will be the Beco da Horta do Ferragial”, located on Eng.º Aboim Sande Lemos street. In this area of the city, known as Horta do Ferragial, no street “perpetuated this memory of the site, so the attribution of this toponym was considered useful”, says the municipality.

This attribution was also proposed by the services of the City Council and validated by the Municipal Commission of Toponymy, in its last meeting.
